I taught Torah and the Torah service to 6th graders at one of the Reform shuls in Cleveland. A few days after 9/11/2001, we took the posture that if the kids wanted to talk about Tuesday and related events, that was fine and we were to see what developed. The schedule for that Sunday was two classes and then "Tefilot"
My two classes each decided that they wanted to write a prayer for Tefilot -- and so we did. I thought I'd pass on the two prayers:
Class One:
God, Creator of the Universe, establish peace and justice for all people in the world. Judge people by their essence and by their Souls.
Class Two:
May we honor all the volunteers that risk their own lives to save others still trapped. We pray for the dead and for those who lost loved ones. Please help us feel safe as we continue our lives and may we find the courage and strength to do what needs to be done. Let us remember these events forever and go on with our lives even stronger.
